Today is another visual update, made some changes to the tile set I'm using plus changes to the grass sprite I've been using. I'm nearing the end of the current tutorial I've been kind of following. I've really learned allot and have been able to make changes as I went to suit my own needs. I have one or two more tutorials I'd like to follow as they have some extra features and different ways of doing things. Looking at this game now there are some significant changes I'd like to make to make it feel less of a clone and more my own thing. I could (and might at some point), make a post just detailing these thoughts, but for now enjoy some video content.

Another big step forward today. Decided I wanted some sort of feedback when collecting items (that you had collected something or had reached a limit for instance), so the coin and item bar now flash white for collected and red for collected but out of room. Added the ability to switch through other items, they're not up and working yet but there are places for them. Made some changes to the drop lists so there's no long a flood of hearts and coins. For the moment bombs drop for testing purposes, that may well change in the future.

Once again I do have future plans. I have ideas for some special boss fights going forward. Not just items but special power ups and upgrades etc.

In a surprise burst of energy I've been busy finishing off the last two items, the bow & arrow and the hook shot. They're not totally complete yet still some tweaking to do, making sure they collide with walls adding arrows to the drop list for testing. Still it's nice to have something more long range to hit enemies with. Plus with the hook shot new areas can be accessed and items can be grabbed from longer range. Thats all for today see what tomorrow brings!

Fair few updates today, some seen some unseen. Had a small change to the layout, again some you can see some you can't currently. Updated a few sprites as well to fit in with the user interface. Most obvious change is that coins can now be collected, a use for them will be coming soon. Bombs are now items they player has in an "inventory". They are able to be created as long as the has ammo for them. Behind the scenes just a little bit more on housekeeping with the code itself for my own benefit and putting some things in place ready for the future.



edit: Really need to remember to get rid of that dark square!
